Services We Offer

We’re pleased to offer the following services at Advanced Veterinary Medical Center:

Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty five days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent needs your pet has. Usually, an urgent care team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet’s life. Urgent situations can be things such as accidental ingestion of rat poison, hit by a car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs urgent treatment do not hesitate to call us or come in immediately.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to “squeeze” you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Puppy/Kitten Health Plans

Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is an exciting time for your family. Our team can help you start your new puppy or kitten off right! Our veterinarians recommend that you set up your pet’s first visit with us soon after adoption. It’s important to get your new pet set up with a good parasite and vaccination program as well as a thorough examination to assure your puppy or kitten is healthy and prepared to stay that way.

Annual Physical Examinations

We recommend annual physical examinations for all adult pets. These regular checkups allow us to keep tabs on your pet, helping us catch any potential problems before they become major issues. At these exams, we check out your pet from nose to tail, examining every part of them, listening to their heart and lungs, and feeling for anything abnormal. These physical exams are also a great place for you to ask any questions about their behavior, habits, or diet. Annual physical exams are here to help keep your pet happy and healthy and prolong their time with you.

Biannual Geriatric Examinations

Regular wellness visits are important for every stage of your pet’s life, so don’t forget to keep your senior pet’s scheduled wellness appointments. The best way to help protect your pet as he or she ages is to understand the aging process in pets. We understand that process and can help you help your pet. Even if your senior pet is already being treated for a medical condition, treatment recommendations can change as a condition progresses. Sometimes medication dosages need to be adjusted, or medication may need to be changed. Routine wellness blood work and other routine diagnostic testing are important for senior pets because these tests allow us to evaluate how your pet’s health is either responding to current management strategies or changing with age.

Your senior pet’s wellness examination is also your chance to have us address any of your questions or concerns about your pet. We welcome your questions and encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your pet’s health care.

Vaccinations

Many of the diseases that can affect dogs and cats are preventable through proper pet vaccinations. Starting your pet on the right schedule early is one of the keys to a long and healthy life. Vaccines are special proteins that prime the immune system to fight off specific infections. They work in two ways: to reduce the severity of such diseases should they strike or to completely prevent infection.

Wellness Checkups

During your annual physical examination, your veterinarian fully examines your pet and discusses vaccinations and ongoing wellness. Just like you do wellness visits with your doctor, it’s important that your pet does the same. During these visits, our team will spend time examining your pet from nose to tail.

Heartworm/Flea & Tick Prevention

Fleas are small, jumping insects that live off of the blood of animals. They can carry dangerous diseases and will often cause allergic dermatitis ”severe itching” in pets.

Ticks are external parasites that live off of the bodily fluids of animals. They can carry diseases from one animal to another and are the main cause of the spread of diseases such as Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis/anaplasmosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Heartworm is a parasite that can live in the heart of dogs and cats. Mosquitoes carry the worm from one infected animal to another. Several hundred worms can live in the heart of a dog and infection from the parasite causes significant damage and can be fatal.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedics involve conditions that affect your pet’s skeletal system and extremities, including bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Orthopedic injuries can affect the mood and quality of life of your pet.

You may notice a slight limp, avoidance of physical activities like jumping, hesitation to get up, or other signs that your pet is experiencing discomfort. Thankfully, there are a number of treatments available that can reduce orthopedic pain for your pet, and Advanced Veterinary Medical Center is committed to finding a treatment plan that will work best.

If you suspect your pet is showing signs of pain, Advanced Veterinary Medical Center will run a series of diagnostic tests to determine the problem. After considering your pet’s age, breed, size, and health, along with the severity of the problem, an Advanced Veterinary Medical Center veterinarian will work with you to develop a plan of treatment for your pet.

Dental Cleaning

Just as it’s important for you to see a dentist regularly, it’s important for dogs and cats as well. Your pet’s oral health is directly connected to their overall health. Signs of dental disease include bad breath, loose, broken, or missing teeth, yellow or brown teeth, red, inflamed or bleeding gums, difficulty or pain when chewing, pawing at the mouth, and excessive drooling. If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to help.

Dental & Full Body Radiography

The digital nature of our X-ray capabilities has allowed our veterinarians to diagnose conditions that could not have been detected through other means. We use digital X-ray routinely with our pet dental cleaning exams to help with detection of tooth decay and infection.

Hairline fractures and arthritis, as well as the size and location of foreign bodies or cancerous tumors, can be seen and the images can be manipulated by our vets so that treatment options can be more carefully planned.

Behavior Consultations

Pets can have a wide variety of behavioral issues, from simple house training problems to severe anxiety and aggression issues. This is where we come in. We are qualified and experienced in diagnosing and addressing behavior problems with an approach that combines skills from veterinary clinical medicine, behavioral medicine, and pet training. As you learn to communicate with your pet, you’ll watch your bond grow over time.

Laser Surgery

The laser has the unique ability to vaporize tissue, and is commonly used to make incisions and erase unhealthy tissue. It is so precise, that we are able to selectively remove only a few cells at a time. The laser kills bacteria in its path and seals nerve endings, leaving patients more comfortable after surgery by causing less trauma to tissue, resulting in a faster recovery time.

Advanced Veterinary Medical Center is one of the only animal hospitals in the area using this technology on a regular basis. Laser surgery is so beneficial we are committed to keeping the price reasonable for our surgical patients.

Veterinary surgeries performed with this laser technology include routine procedures, such as spays, neuters, growth removals, and veterinary cosmetic surgery including eyelid surgery.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy is a wonderful alternative that is found to help in a wide range of areas! Laser is used for the management of surgical incisions, tendon and ligament injuries, traumatic injuries, and chronic arthritis!

The treatment offers a range of benefits that contribute to overall well-being and recovery. First and foremost, it aids in reducing inflammation, which is crucial for alleviating discomfort and promoting healing. Additionally, the therapy stimulates the release of endorphins, providing a natural way to achieve relaxation and a sense of well-being. Improved blood flow is another advantage, as it brings essential cells and oxygen to the targeted area, accelerating the healing process. Moreover, this approach has shown to lead to faster repair and healing of affected tissues. Remarkably, it has been noted to provide longer-term pain relief, offering a more sustainable solution. Furthermore, one of the key attractions of this treatment is that it is non-invasive, ensuring a more comfortable and hassle-free experience for patients seeking relief and recovery.

American Associated of Feline Practitioners

Advanced Veterinary Medical Center prides itself on being an AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners) practice.  AAFP’s mission is to improve the health and welfare of cats through high standards of practice, continuing education, and evidence-based medicine. Here at AVMC, Dr. Rozenbaum is a certified AAFP Vet. We have a specific door for our cat friends to come through and a special room just for them. We have a Feliway plug-in, as well as Feliway sprayed towels to help our cats feel comfortable when coming into this new environment. Feliway is a pheromone that only affects cats. Feliway helps reduce signs of stress during Veterinary visits and hospitalization. On top of that, we added a climber with toys so our cats can climb around and have fun while waiting. We love seeing cats and can’t wait to see more cats.

If you have any additional questions about our practice, please don’t hesitate to call us at 248-478-5400.

You don’t have to be a veterinarian to know that cats are very different than dogs. But the reality is that most veterinary practices, when looked at from a pet’s perspective, are designed with dogs in mind. This makes sense when considering that most practices see so many more dogs than cats. If our goal is to have more cats get the care they deserve, then we need to start thinking about our practice from a cat’s perspective. This is where the Cat-Friendly Practice Criteria come in.  In order to apply for the program, a practice must meet several criteria in each of ten different areas:

  • Staff Training & Continuing Education / Client Communications
  • Veterinary Practice / Waiting Room
  • Feline Handling & Interaction with Clients
  • Examination Room & Clinical Records
  • Wards Facilities
  • Pain Management / Operating Room & Anesthesia
  • Surgical Equipment & Dentistry
  • Diagnostic Imaging & Laboratory Facilities
  • Treatment / Health & Safety
  • Preventative Care by Life Stages

Advanced Veterinary Medical Center encourages all cat owners to call their veterinarians this week to schedule wellness exams for their cats.

The nationwide “Have we seen your cat lately?” awareness program is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc.
